Q&A | Angelic Encounters

You’ve mentioned several encounters with demons. Since there are twice as many angels than demons I’d like to know if you’ve encountered an angel. Statistically speaking, you should have by now. If so, how was that encounter?

We don’t know that there are twice as many angels as demons. There’s no telling how many have fallen over time since the Bible was written, and Satan, the gods, and the disembodied souls of the Nephilim all fall under the title “demon” as well. Jewish lore says that God only allowed a portion of the Nephilim spirits to continue as demons and that he got rid of some of them, but that’s not Biblical canon. There may also be other kinds of demons the Bible doesn’t tell us about since that’s not our domain, so we can’t truly weigh out the numbers.

I have no problem believing there has been some interaction with angels in the background during exorcisms, but they have not made themselves public or explicitly presented themselves. It’s possible that they may just be faithfully doing their job and allowing me to attribute it to the work of the Holy Spirit, since he’s the one they’re trying to serve. We’ll see if that dynamic changes in time.

I thought according to Revelation Satan took 1/3 of the stars (angels) with him when he fell. Is there a belief that angels have been allowed to fall since then?

Angels are free will agents made in the image of God just like we are. It makes logical sense that they are capable of turning against God at any time.

So, why create man if angels were already created in the image of God and have free will? What separates humankind from angelic kind? In that case, do you believe demons can repent? Would God then honor their free will to admit their wrongdoings and desire to return to him? That seems like a slippery slope.

Angels are the image of God in the heavenlies. We’re the image of God in the earthlies. Our job is to “image” God in our respective spheres and cultivate those areas to look like God would have them.

There’s nothing in the Bible about demons being able to repent. While we will add to the weight or the specifics of their judgment in some way (1 Cor 6:3), it’s generally understood that their judgment is already final.
