The King of Moab Sets Off a Spiritual Explosion

Three kings united in war against the King of Moab and headed out for victory. They were guaranteed to win. Not only had the prophet Elisha informed them that God would bring about their victory, but supernatural signs were proving Elisha’s declaration to be true.

But they lost.

In the middle of the war, a horrific event happened. When the King of Moab saw that he was losing, he sacrificed his oldest son (and successor to the throne) in front of everyone. After he did this, the Bible informs us that “there came great wrath against Israel,” so they headed home.

This wrath baffles most bible scholars. What happened? We assume that Israel would have won the war if they kept fighting, so what was the wrath that made them give up? I suggest that Israel encountered some kind of great spiritual warfare in this moment.

During a very confusing case of exorcism, I asked God for an explanation as to why the removal of these demons had been so difficult. The Holy Spirit responded by giving me three supernatural signs that explained the demon’s long-game plan with a fair amount of detail. They had come up with a strategy to do a significant amount of spiritual damage and they were desperate to pull it off.

As I puzzled over this situation, I was reminded of the King of Moab. I suggest that by horrifically sacrificing his son to the demon god Chemosh, he had empowered a demonic plan of destruction. His evil actions set off a bomb in the spiritual realm, strengthening Chemosh and his demons in a way that I think Israel could sense or experience, causing them to give up and run away.
