“I know ‘spirit guide’ is a New Age term, but it’s a helpful expression to understand what’s going on here,” I explained to the participant. “You have pain in your life, and spirits want to guide you on how to deal with it. So if a demon comes along and offers you guidance on how to cope with the pain and you accept their suggestions, you essentially make a contractual deal to invite them into your life.”
Something changed in their eyes, as though a light had turned on. It seemed that they had never considered their actions as “guided” before. But as they reflected on the decisions they had made to deal with their pain and the fruit that had come from their actions, it was all starting to make sense.
“Back to the spirit guide idea,” I continued. “The Holy Spirit is the only one with the wisdom you need to deal with your pain correctly. He wants to guide you in a much better way that will bring you healing and fruit like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. So if you want us to get the demons out, you must be willing to change from an evil spirit as your guide to the Holy Spirit as your guide. His healing methods are very different, but they actually work. The demons, on the other hand, will keep you stuck in a loop of pain. They don’t actually care about you. They’re not trying to fix anything. They want to see you suffer, and they want to keep you as a home.”
My participant repented, and I led them through a repeat-after-me prayer to choose the Holy Spirit for future guidance. After that, the demons related to the topic we discussed were removed.
