“I’ve never seen anyone encounter the Holy Spirit in this way,” I told the participant. “Normally, he speaks through the imagination, and we follow where those visions lead.”
“The Spirit just said that I wouldn’t believe it was him if he used that method,” the participant reported.
Every exorcist has practices they rely on to lead people through inner healing, but we have to be flexible. God does not speak to all people the same way, nor is every participant’s case the same as another. What was wisdom for Participant A may not be wisdom for Participant B. You need to work with the Holy Spirit to discern the many differences from person to person, as he speaks to them as they are and not as he did to someone else.
If you are unwilling to be flexible, deliverance will be more difficult than it needs to be. The best-case scenario of inflexibility is that God got the job done much slower than he wanted. The worst-case scenario is that he couldn’t do anything at all. For example, if I forced the participant above to meet the Holy Spirit in visions he wasn’t ever going to believe, we may have never gotten anywhere. You need to adapt to what God is doing, not force God to do things your way.
Don’t freak out if Jesus needs to do bring about healing in a different way than usual. He is wisdom. And he said that “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, … will teach you all things…” Just be flexible and listen. You may not know the territory, but the Spirit will guide you.
