Spiritual Static: Clearing the Way to Hear God Clearly

“I’ve been asking God for answers, but he hasn’t been saying anything.” This is a statement I hear from people often in inner healing and have experienced in my own life many times. Here are some of the reasons I’ve seen the Holy Spirit give my participants as to why this happens.

They wouldn’t listen to the truth if God told them right now.

Sometimes we’re just too deep in the lies of demons. I’ve seen several times where the Holy Spirit has tried to pass along truth to participants through very powerful visions, with little to no effect. Indeed, one participant had a vision where that was the whole point of the imagery: “No matter what I or anyone else says, it’s not getting through.”

They have done too much heavy inner healing work recently to get into the next topic.

In the same way that you can only do so much physical activity in one day in a rehabilitation hospital, you can only do so much spiritual activity in a spiritual hospital. The Holy Spirit knows how much to do in one session and will often tell us when he’s done for the day. Sometimes people return for a future session and the Holy Spirit tells them they’ve done too much heavy lifting lately and they need to keep resting before they take on the next demon.

They’re not ready to talk about it.

We rarely start a session until the Holy Spirit has shown up. If he’s not presenting himself in due time, we follow the nudges to figure out why. Many times this silence is immediately broken after the person prays an agreed upon repeat-after-me prayer that says something like, “If anything is preventing me from hearing from you, I want to be in a place where I can listen.” If we have a sense as to what it is in the way, I’ll coach them through repenting or turning that over to God.

Demons are in the way and need to be moved so that the session can start.

Occasionally the session won’t go anywhere because demons are already blocking the way forward. Sometimes this can be discerned because the participant only hears negative thoughts while searching for the Holy Spirit. If a session isn’t moving forward, I’ll say something like, “Any and all demons getting in the way are to leave the participant alone.” I’ll often follow this up by speaking in tongues for a moment. Sometimes the person immediately hears the demons mocking me which helps us discern that they’re in the way. We then move them out of the way and the Holy Spirit often shows up quickly after.

There are more variables that can prevent a session from going anywhere, but these are some common circumstances that get in the way of hearing God’s voice. But before we blame demons for silence in our lives, it is often healthier to start with ourselves. Are we in our own way? Even when it is demons in the way, it’s sometimes because we gave them the space to be by listening to their voices too much.
