The Unexpected Journey into Exorcism Ministry

The COVID-19 pandemic had stolen all the momentum from our church. And then she walked in…

A woman I had only met once before at an event mustered up the strength to announce to our church that she had a dream that I had cast a demon out of someone. A few weeks later, a demon manifested. The next week I found a demon in someone else. Another week after that, God had to deal with a demon in me. I broke out in stress hives as I experienced the exorcism crash course of a lifetime. The supernatural ministry I had always hoped to find in partnership with the Holy Spirit had arrived in the most beautiful, chaotic way.

I was not unaware of demons before this moment. In college, a charismatically-minded professor took me under his wing and began to teach me about the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts. Pneumatology soon became my favorite field of theological study as I began to see the Spirit wildly at work in front of me.

Throughout the next decade, my life on the topic of demons had been pretty tame. During that time, I dealt with two demonic manifestations and read a few practical and theological books on the topic, and that was it. But after that woman shared her dream with my church, everything changed. Now I was doing this strange kind of ministry all the time.

After hundreds of hours of these sessions, I realized that I had unexpectedly stepped into the role of an exorcist. I also noticed that the Holy Spirit had helped me create an exorcism model I hadn’t seen fully fleshed out in any of the books I had read. Rather, it was a hodgepodge of all the books I had read, relying heavily on counseling and the art of Christian imaginative prayer. After years of proving this model’s effectiveness, I launched The Exorcist’s Bestiary to publish the lessons I’ve been learning.

I pray the efforts made here will be helpful.
