The Screwtape Letters in Real Life

While dealing with a death demon, my participant suddenly had a vision of another demon that looked like a shadowy blob. I commanded the demon to reveal its name to my participant, to which it replied, “Sayah.” I pulled out my phone and Googled the name, showing the results, “a female name, meaning shade or shadow.” Before I could say this out loud, my participant said, “She’s been working with the death demon. She says she’s that demon’s shadow?”

I thought of C.S. Lewis’ classic work of fiction, The Screwtape Letters. Was it possible Lewis was right? Do upper-class demons really teach lower-class demons? Was it possible that Sayah was shadowing the other death demon in this way?

“She says she’s here on a student visa,” my participant continued, giving me my answer. This shouldn’t be too shocking of a revelation. When I’m casting out demons, the Holy Spirit often takes me to the leaders to deal with them directly.

This kind of counseling between demons is a part of the reason that demonic attacks can be so effective. If we imagine a community of evil spirits teaching each other strategies that have and haven’t worked for them over the centuries, then we can understand how demons are so clever when it comes to messing up our lives.

But the Holy Spirit can help us withstand every attack as we put on the armor of God. May we listen to him for strategies to overcome all the spiritual warfare that comes our way.

Every time I found a way to overcome one of their lies, they worked together to brainstorm a new way to communicate their lie.
